Congratulations to PSG Vice Chair Thai Van Nguyen for being awarded the prestigious 2021 Goldman Environmental Prize for Asia! The annual award is given to six pioneering grass roots environmentalists, each working in a different continent.
A passionate advocate for pangolins for most of his life, Thai is a recognised leader in the field of pangolin conservation. He has been an active member of the PSG since its re-establishment in 2012, serving as Vice Chair and a valued member of our Advisory Committee.
Thai founded Save Vietnam’s Wildlife in 2014, after nearly a decade conserving pangolins and carnivores in Vietnam. As Executive Director of SWV, he has overseen the rescue of more than 1,500 pangolins from the illegal wildlife trade to date and helped to establish Vietnam’s first anti-poaching unit. SVW has also launched public education and awareness programmes to highlight the plight of pangolins and other threatened wildlife. Watch this short film to learn more about the work Thai oversees at SVW.
Thai’s contribution to pangolin conservation is huge – his tireless lobbying has contributed to greater awareness, protection and funding for pangolins in Vietnam and globally. Thai – thank you for everything you do for the PSG, pangolins and wildlife conservation. You are a true inspiration!
Register now for tonight’s virtual prize ceremony (June 15, 2021, at 4:00 pm PDT / 7:00 pm EDT) to meet Thai and the other award winners and hear their stories firsthand.
